Tokyo Trip Day 1

Was off for an 8 days trip to Tokyo with my wife and in-laws. Most part of day 1 are spent on the plane. 7 hours to be more exact. Fast and uneventful check out from the Narita Airport Terminal 1 immigration. This is good. No one wants to be touched by customs officers. Except if they are family. Or lover. We paid for the Airport Limo bus to Tokyo station. We then got our data SIM Card. 1.5GB for seven days at 3500yen. This data SIM card does not allow hotspot access. So sharing it is out. We contemplated between getting a WIFI router (for approximately 1200yen per day) and a data SIM card. The cheapo in us prevailed, and also not all of us need Internet access to survive. So just one SIM Card will do. You can get WIFI Router from Changi recommends for $8 per day for Japan. But you probably need to reserve it early. We tried to get it 1 day before. Sorry. All units are out. Uneventful ride to Tokyo station. We didn’t want to figure out the subway yet, so we took a hike to our hotel Hotel Villa Fontaine, 800m away with […]

1 Year On

Time passes so fast. It has been a year since we laid Kaelyn to rest. We came together and had a memorial on her 1st anniversary in Heaven at where we last bade her farewell, at the waters off Changi Ferry Terminal. We then went out to sea in 2 bumboats. My neighbour’s boy, Jayden, drew a picture for her beforehand. It is a picture of them out at sea on a boat enjoying the day. We went out and didn’t think of how to end with the drawing. One of us made it into a paper boat. We tied balloons of Kaelyn’s favourite cartoon character to it. We dropped off flowers, set the paper boat off and reminisce as we watch the paper boat sail away. Truly grateful for the friends that remembers her. Also very proud of my girl in the way she left impressions among people who interacted with her. A year later after I laid Kaelyn into the coffin, it still hurts when memories of us together flood my head. Time heals all wounds they say. This statement is a lie. This wound never heals. It will only be buried by the hustles of life, but never […]

Keeping the DSLR or mirrorless m4/3

These few weeks, I have been contemplating about camera systems. I am no pro. But I would like to get into taking better photos. I have a Nikon D40 which I have neglected. It has a spot now when i take a photo. I guess I have to service that. Or not. Since it has lagged the latest camera models by a fair bit. But I also loaned a D3200 body from my sis. This made me want to forgo this Nikon DX system and go for the new mirrorless Olympus micro 4/3 format. Mainly i was looking at the E-M1 or E-M2 MKII with the 12–40mm f2.8 PRO lens. This setup will be a do all without the need to get any additional lens for the start as the lens is fairly fast at f2.8 throughout all the focal length. I didn’t have much investment into the lens except for the Nikkor 35mm f1.8. For my usage, It will most likely the camera will be used for travel, days to day general usage and more towards portraits. But in the end, mainly the feelings for my pocket prevailed. I will be looking at SGD$2200 for either of the Olympus choice. […]

Celebrating Bobby’s 36th

We celebrated our friend, Boddy’s 36th at St Regis. He has got a room at rather seemingly swanky hotel, which he does almost every year. We were planning for dinner at some restaurant nearby. But I guess everybody’s at an age where we don’t really care what and where we are eating, so long everybody is comfortable and everyone that matters are here. We ended up with room service for dinner. We had the table set up ready for dining. We had some drinks and pretty good food served. A toast to more good years, my friend Sorry for the out of focus picture of the toast.

Week In Review 10th April 2016

Semi Autonomous trucks in the testing This is what I love about technology. Countless hours will be saved if all it needs is just a single person or 2 to overlook a convoy across thousands of kilometres. But for now the promises of reduced emission and improved road safety is good for now. Cracking the lottery system Lottery Vendor wins lottery by using the system he designed.
